How to Invest in Energy on What Matters Most
You have a limit to how much energy you can use on a given day. People often start their day in a rush, racing from one task to the next. Many people feel exhausted at the end of the day, feeling like they haven’t done enough and wondering where the time went.
That is where you can make more energy use. It does not mean that you should do more. It’s about simplifying, focusing more on the essential things, and less on what doesn’t matter. You can maximize your energy for the things that you love by making conscious choices and increasing awareness.
My energy levels increase when I get eight hours of sleep, eat healthy food, and exercise daily. My energy levels are also increased by being emotionally, intellectually, and psychologically engaged.
The real question is how strategically can you invest the energy that you have on what matters most?
When I stopped paying attention, I realized how recklessly and indiscriminately I was wasting my energy. It is crucial to think about this because it is how we can maximize our productivity and happiness.
My energy is spent writing, listening, strategizing, and teaching. I also plan, offer my opinion, and make decisions quickly. Here’s how to invest in energy more purposefully each day.
1. Recognize that you have the power to choose.
You have complete control over how you spend your time, even though it might not feel that way at times. You might have an important meeting at 8 AM. The consequences of not following the meeting are apparent, so you decide to go. You can also choose to wake up early to have more time for breakfast or rush to work.
Realizing that you have control over what and how you use your energy is the first step. Every action, thought, or word you make is an energy exchange that you choose.What Does Living A Healthy Life Involve?
There are many ways to look at a situation. Realize that you can change your perspective if it isn’t empowering or productive. You can see the possibility and opportunity even when it isn’t apparent to you. It may surprise you at the things you see when you open your eyes to seeing opportunities and possibilities.
2. Make wise investments in energy
The idea of “crowding in” also works for thinking. What will do with your mental energy? Persisting over people or things that I don’t like is not a good way to use energy. Thinking about the lessons I can learn from someone is almost always a good idea.
When you are certain about what is most important to you, you can schedule as many as you want in your daily life. Put them all in your calendar. Allow them to crowd out energy-wasting activities.
Your learning mind should “crowd out your complaining mind.” It can be precious to schedule time at the end of the day to gain insights.
3. Keep your eyes on the important things and take immediate action.
In the grand scheme, emails and errands probably don’t matter that much. But, it is crucial to work towards a personal goal or project that is important to you. It will bring you more energy and satisfaction when you make meaningful progress toward what is truly important to your heart.
Everyone has a list of things they need to accomplish each day at different energy costs. You’ll notice a rise in energy when you emphasize the essential things meaningful to you rather than the urgent but insignificant.
Another critical aspect is to focus on what you can do today. It can be hard work to reach meaningful and worthwhile goals. Focusing on a tiny thing you can do today will eliminate the energy drain associated with struggling to accomplish so much in too little time.
There is always a balance. Sometimes, you will choose to do the little things because you know how they impact your life. It is in your best interest to prioritize what is most important to you.
4. Plan where you don’t want to invest
Optimizing your energy consumption can lead to a counterproductive energy drain. You can get rid of any unnecessary conversations, put an end to responding to emails, and become a better investor of your energy.
It’s much easier to not turn on the TV than to stop watching a show in the middle. Do not engage in a conversation you feel will cause you to get upset and lead you nowhere. Don’t waste too much time on this.
You will begin to see your energy, and you’ll be able to identify the things you love and the ones you hate. It’s not easy to stop doing something halfway through, but it’s easier to start the process.
5. Prioritize yourself
Many people find it beneficial to have a routine, especially in the morning, before any emails, surprises, and other things that may arise. It could be as easy as getting up earlier and having breakfast, coffee, exercise, meditation, or a quick walk to get you started for the day.
It includes basic things like eating healthy food, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and ensuring your body gets the rest it needs. Regular exercise is also essential. It is necessary to balance your relationships and the time you spend with others to feel your best.
It’s crucial to prioritize yourself when it comes to managing your energy. When people feel drained of energy or have little time to spare, self-care is often the first thing that goes. You will have more energy when you are most in need. Remember that you are more capable of taking care of your own needs and helping others.
6. Notice your energy
You can see the world differently if you view it through an energy lens. This simple energy check-in helped me change my habits.
What matters to you? It is crucial to know what you value in your life. That will help you make intelligent decisions about how to invest your energy.
What are you doing with your energy? As a prompt, I set my phone’s beep to sound at random times throughout the day to help me notice where my energy is going. That allows me to see how my energy is being spent visibly (doing) and invisibly (thinking).
7. Recognize and Celebrate
It is a great way to focus your energy and be grateful for all the good things in your life. Recognizing all the beautiful things in your life is a great way to shift your outlook and increase your energy.
A related point: When you complete something, no matter how big or small it is, take the time to recognize its accomplishment. We often rush to the next thing and forget to give ourselves credit for what’s been done. Or we focus on the things that we haven’t done yet. Even though we have done so much, it’s not surprising that we feel empty and unsatisfied sometimes.
8. Add in Energy Chargers
Although it may seem counterintuitive when you feel low in energy, adding Energy Chargers to your day is an excellent way to boost your energy. These activities are great for boosting your energy and bringing you joy.
Some people find it in walking, reading, and spending time with friends or family. Whatever your passion, energy chargers can make it easier to have the energy you need to accomplish everything you do each day. You’ll possibly feel refreshed and ready to tackle the next item on your list.
